Barthello tended to a young Growlithe pup that had hurt it's paw. When he had a free minute, he looked toward the sky. "I know you can hear me, Adina. There's something you need to see. A special earthbending technique I invented to let me live forever."

Adina sat in a nearby tree, invisible, in her human form.

Barthello knew she was near, even if he couldn't see her. He placed his hand on the ground and several rocks formed up around his arm, then slowly began fading into dust. "I can absorb the life energy from the earth to prolong my own life. I felt you should know. That's why I'm being hunted."

I see, Adina thought.

Barthello went back inside to care for the injured pokemon. That was really a passion of his and he believed it was his life's calling.

He really does have a kind heart, Adina thought.

Barthello walked out carrying a baby Absol whose paw was bleeding. "It's ok," he said in a kind voice, trying to calm the baby down. "It's ok. I'll take you to your mama and get that paw all better."

Barthello smiled, carefully bandaging the paw as he walked toward the baby's mama.

A young Growlithe looked up at where Adina was and barked. "Shoo," Adina muttered. The Growlithe continued looking at where Adina was.

Barthello looked up where the Growlithe was barking. He stomped and a rock flew up into his hand. "If you've come to harm or take any pokemon, back down now before I have to hurt you."

Adina sighed and revealed herself. "Chill. It's just me."

"Oh." Barthello let the rock fall. "I'm glad it's not a crook. There have been a few who have, unfortunately, made it past me."

Adina jumped out of the tree. "Younger Pokemon are more perceptive to me than older ones are."

"I noticed," he said. "So, you did hear what I said about my earth secret?"

"Yeah."

"I figured you should know. Well, I have to get this little Absol back to his mother."

She nodded.

Barthello smiled, walking off, thinking for a moment how cool it was that she was keeping an eye on him, but focusing on getting the baby back to his mother. The mother Absol was overjoyed to have her baby back and licked Barthello's face all over. "Easy, Lina, easy."

"You thinking about papa Barty?" a young Piplup standing beside Adina said.

"I'm just observing to make sure he's trustworthy," Adina said. "You should easily be able to pick up on who I truly am which is why I have to make sure he's able to keep my secret."

"He's never told anyone any of my secrets before." A young Eevee nearby perked up its ears. "You must hide," he said to Adina. "Hunters. I'm sure they're after you."

"Damn it. Thanks." Adina floated up into the air, disappearing. This is why I don't leave my glade much.

The hunters approached Barthello. "Word has it," one of them started, "that you were sighted with a Mew in the mountains. A very special Mew." "I've never seen a Mew before in my life," Barthello told them. "Don't play dumb!" the man shouted, lifting Barthello off the ground by his collar. "There's a warrant on you, too, but I'm sure I could look the other way if you gave us the information about the Mew." "I can't give you information I don't have," Barthello choked out.

Movement came from the forest and a band of Eevee evolutions came out. All of the 'lutions were among them, including a white one with wings. The winged one flew into the air, then used Razor Wind on the hunter holding Barthello. The others scattered to take on the other hunters. Laerion? I haven't seen one of those in a melennium... Adina thought.

"Please, be careful!" Barthello shouted to the Eeveelutions. "Don't hurt any of the other pokemon!"

The Laerion nodded as she knocked out the hunter that had been holding Barthello. The others made quick work of the hunters they had taken on. The Laerion waved her wing and the hunters disappeared. She folded her wings and Adina landed, appearing. "I never thought I'd see another of you," she said. The Laerion merely bowed her head in deep respect to Adina.

The Laerion dipped her head and the 'lutions gathered behind her. "She's saying to me that we don't have to worry. I recognize two of them. Ana and Star." Ana, the Eevee from the city, and a Jolteon that was lighter than a normal one, dipped their head. "Lara, the Laerion, is saying that she'll defend us. Apparently, this band has been working together an extremely long time and will lay down their lives for me. Then again, almost any Pokemon would, but I trust Lara. All of the Laerion I've known have never gone back on their word. Ever."
