"I do not think either of us have offered our name, really. And the prices are carved of wood, and are magnetically connected to the board. When you tell a price to move, the magnet is moved across the bottom of the board, bringing the prices to the correct position." He smiled, "A combination of modern technolegy and ancient carving, it is. But about our names, I do suppose that if we are to remain in each other's company, we should share. I am known as Ab'Soli."

"Andemah, but I prefer Ande." She went back to inspecting the piece. "I have never seen such a game before."

"I'll teach you, it's more strategic than anything." Ab'Soli commented, "It's fairly simple."

"I have never been much at strategy," Ande said. "Nor games in genral. I have never much liked them."

"A wise man once said, 'A sharp mind wins many battles.' And it is true, also, for everyday problemsolving and for healing too, not just warfare."

"Reading has done me fine enough over the past four centuries, Ande said. "Would you perchance have any books?"

"Not so many, sadly. Only a couple about the plant species around here. They may be interesting to you for awhile, but they do grow boring rather quickly." He walked over to a small cleft in the rock, and took out a pair of books.

"Books hold much more for me than most," Ande said as she took one, flipping through it.

"You're welcome to read through them. Perhaps then you'll be of some use regarding your recovery." Ab'Soli joked with her a bit. "I'm gonna see what the weather's like. Be back shortly."

Ande nodded, clearly absorbed in the book.

Ab'Soli noticed the wind had changed, and that the storm was breaking up. He walked out a ways, to a rock in the snow. Clearing away the snow, he revealed the stone had a mostly flat top, and that it had strange writing on it's side. After getting up, he began walking back to his home. "I'd suppose her wing could take this weather. She'll be glad for a chance to stretch her legs."

Ande flipped the page in the book. "Perhaps I should try to find information on the Taka'li'na..." she muttered.

Ab'Soli walked back in, smiling. "Hey, I bet you'll be glad to hear this. The poltice has had enough time to work, and I've decided the storm's over enough that it won't harm your wing to go outside."

Ande looked up and nodded, clearly breathing a sigh of relief. "That is good."

"So go ahead, do stand." Ab'Soli urged her, "Good weather does not last forever."

She stood up, using the cave to help maintain her balance and walked outside, leaning against the rock. She closed her eyes and hooked a loose strand of her long white hair behind her ear.

Ab'Soli led her outside, sunlight shining from the left. After being in the cavern, the sun was bright.

Ande was clearly unaffected by the sudden change in brightness. She smiled and absorbed the sunlight.:

Unlike Ande, Ab'Soli had to squint for a few moments until his eyes had adjusted. "Go ahead and stretch yer legs, but there'll be another storm here in a couple hours. Can feel it in my bones, I can, and the air still smells of rain."

'I am well aware of the incoming storm. I am a creature of the air; I know how to read the ever shifting currents of the weather. the spring is fast approaching, so the storms will be less fierce, but they will be more frequent."

"I never said you couldn't." Ab'Soli commented, and showing a bit of his rough side, added, "But while you're here and injured, you're my patient, and I'm going to warn you about things, whether you know about them or not. Get used to it."

Ande's wing twitched, clearly irritably.

"I ponder, would you refrain from giving one of your patients a warning, even from something obvious? I doubt it. Not only is it a sign you care, but it's a way to ensure they pay attention. Unlike you, some people cannot tell the weather. Therefore, I assumed you could not, either, until I knew otherwise."

"I have been upon the air nigh three hundred fifty years. Repetition of knowledge to another that has it is considered disrespectful in my culture which is why it irritates me."

"Now I did not know that, either." Ab'Soli commented. "But down here, it's a form of letting someone know you care. Like mothers telling their children to be careful for the fiftieth time, and so on. In this case, me warning you about the weather tells you I care that your wing heals well, so you don't have to spend more time than absolutely necessary healing." His soft side showed this time, as he explained, "And I'll continue to care about that, so you may have to withstand more warnings."

Ande nodded. "The ways of humans are still very strange to me. While I have wandered this planet nigh a hundred years, I have seldom conferred with humans."

"Well, then, we will both have to remain patient with each other. I'll teach you some of the ways of humankind, and you can teach me your ways." Then he smiled, as he remembered something, "But do remember, that these humans here are absolutely nothing compared to those in the first demention. Man, that world's messed up!"
(My youth pastor agrees with you about the world being messed up.)

Ande nodded. "That is most true. I have heard some of the 1st dimension and it sounds much more messed up than this world. And I will teach you of my people to the best of my ability."
