A small crevice in the mountains, a short tunnel slopes up into a cavern. The heat from within the mountain keeps the place warm, and the natural protection defends him from the harshest storms.
Ab'Soli began walking up to his cavern, the pickaxe in his hand clanging softly against the ground in sync with his steps. He entered the tunnel, and switched the pickaxe for a thick, wooden stick that leaned against the wall.

Several hours later, a figure crashed outside in the snow from the strong winds. Her right wing laid folded under her as if she had tried to go into a dive or such. Her left wing laid out next to, the bone sticking out at a grosteque angle, clearly broken. Her white hair was splayed out around her head but nearly invisible in the snow. She had passed out, clearly from the pain of her broken wing.

The ground shook under Ab'Soli, and he came out to see the cause, his interest peaking as he saw the sorry shape. He went back inside, then returned with a pair of small sticks and a tarp. He wrapped the edges of the tarp around the sticks, judged the creature would fit into the tunnel, then got the sticks and tarp, now a makeshift stretcher, under the bird. He drug the hapless creature slowly through the snow, and into the tunnel.

Ande groaned. "Ow...." she said, a light, strange accent to her voice.

"Ah, good, you're concious." Ab'Soli said from somewhere behind Ande, "Now stay still there. I'll have you fixed up in a little. Can't think of any reason a bird type like you would be out in a storm like this, much less flying. You seem to have the brain of a Ratata!" Ab'Soli chuckled, "You should learn from this, young one."

Ande just groaned, still mostly out. She held her hand to her head, trying to stop the throbbing. "Not...a...bird..." she muttered. "Angel...Katrin..."

"Angel, bird, both have wings. You're just lucky you landed where you did. A little further you'd be hitting sheer rock." Ab'Soli was looking down on her in a caring way, and as she rubbed her head, he walked around her. "You've broken a wing, and have some nasty scratches, but other than that you're well off." He handed her a vial with a strange potion in it. "Drink. It's like a natural version of asprin." He gave a short chuckle as he continued, "Most of what I use is natural. Looks nasty, maybe a little bitter, but gets the job done."

Ande managed to open her eyes a bit, but closed them again. "Concussion..." she muttered.

"Now, what're you yabbering about? Don'cha think I already checked for that?" Ab'Soli seemed a little iratated, but checked her again, just to be sure. He took a flashlight to her eyes, checking her pupil's reaction time.

"I just know... Healer myself..." she murmured, fighting to stay awake. "Four hundred years... Valacia..."

"Ok, ok, if it'll make you feel better I'll put a solution on you. But I really don't see any signs of a concussion." He hopped down, and there was chopping, stirring, and breaking as he mixed the ingredients. "This'll feel cold." He applied the solution over her entire scalp, ensuring there could be no spot he missed. "Normally, I'd only have mixed enough to cover an injured spot. But since I want to be absolutely sure, I covered everything. If there is a concussion, it won't be long until the solute's properties speed up your natural healing abilities." He looked at her, "Using my herbs, that's about the best I can do. Although, even if it doesn't completely heal the injury, it will buy enough time for me to get into town and get the modern medicine." He pulled a sheet out, holding it up, "I figured it would be smart to get this." The paper was a diploma in medicine, specifically a doctorate. "I figure this'll be enough to prescribe medicine without too much trouble, huh?"

"Good. The poltice has had enough time to begin working. Now, I'll just head out and get that modern medicine, just in case. Then I'll apply a poltice on her wing." He thought about just putting the remainder of the fast-healing poltice on, then shook the thought away. "No. Not a chance. You know as well as anyone that poltice is double-edged! You know the poltice heals fast, but that because of the increased speed only does half a job. On a wing like that, the regrown bone would barely support it's own weight, much less her full weight." He finished whispering to himself, then added, "Although I could have her stay in bed while her natural healing finishes the poltice's job..." He shook his head, then headed out into the cold, toward the hospital.

After a few hours, Ande cracked her blue eyes. "What...happened...?" She was clearly more alert than before, the sleep having done her good, but she couldn't remember anything after the crash.

"You crashed. Broke your wing." Ab'Soli reminded her, "Right outside my home. I drug you in, and started to tend to your wounds for you. But on the off chance the poltice I gave you didn't work, you should take this." He handed her a small vial of medicine, the medicine he had gone and gotten while she was sleeping. "I think during the crash, you may have gotten a concussion, and this will help." He smiled, "At least, the poltice I gave you has worked enough you're not in serious danger right bow, but after you've taken this it'll be even better."

"Young ones these days!" Ab'Soli shook his head and stepped out of sight, returning with the paper that held his diploma. He held it open so she could see what it was, while saying, "Now I say, 'Drink, doctor's order'. That potion is made of the modern medicine straight from the farmacy intown. Not drinking it's like saying you don't trust the pharmacy." He shook his head, and added, "Even if I were prone to harm you, there wouldn't be much I could do that would be worse than what you have now. But were I prone to hurt you, I wouldn'ta drug you outta the snow, and into my own home!"

"Forgive me," Ande said, bowing her head, wincing a bit. :The fall must have impaired my aura reading. I did not realize you age." She winced again, but at the pain in her wing this time. "I... It is the way of my people to not trust humes...humans...or other races and has been since 340 Pracia Comiton."

"That's quite alright. I don't fully trust 'em myself, you know. To me, they're giants! Combined with the fact that I'm not getting any younger, and that about the only way I could really hurt one of 'em is to whack their kneecap with my staff. Even doing that, though, isn't even near what they could do to me, even on accident." He shuddered at that thought. "But instead, let's focus on getting you patched up, huh?" He quickly changed the subject. "I know a poltice that will let you be able to walk, but it would have it's share of risks. You wouldn't be able to fly for awhile, and even a sharp knock could break the bone again. After all, wing bones have half the density of a normal bone, and the poltice would only do half a healing job. I estimate your wing would be able to support it's own weight, which means you could walk, but you would have to wait awhile before the bone's full density recovers natually to fly. Or, we could stay here and ensure the bone completely heals. I estimate a couple months either way, but if the wing breaks a second time after being healed by poltice, it's take even longer. I'd normally not give the patient the choice, but I'll make an exeption in this case. Want to be able to stretch your legs, or ensure proper recovery?"

"If I had the supplies from my home planet, I could make a potion that would heal much faster... But I am still very unfamiliar with the plants and their equivalent here... I learned much healing from the Elves and Unicorns and Centaurs of Valacia, but even my healing magic is not very good at the moment because of all the snow."

"Ah, unfortunatly there are no herbs here as powerful as that, I've had a extra long lifetime to study their capibilities. If you're interested, though, I can teach you a little about the herbs one finds here." Ab'Soli looked at her, and said, "But you still have not given me a choice yet. I cannae make a poltice until I know your choice."

Ab'Soli nodded, "Being bedridden is a bore. I'll go ahead and show you to make the poltice." He moved to the table behind her, where several herbs were waiting, and grabbed a couple piles. He returned, then dashed back and grabbed another object -a berry. "I think it would be best to inteoduce the herbs as I use them. First, we have the Saffron. On it's own, it creates a strong, perfume like smell, and I find adding a little to the mixture helps with the scent of it. Now we add a pair of healing herbs - there's a couple dock leaves we chop up, and a sitrus berry. These poltice's can be digested to work on many places at once, but it's not quite there yet. Eating this would make you sick at best. Dock and Sitrus together are poisonous. But if we add a pecha berry, which is nature's antidote, (and that works well against infection,) we get a poltice that works well, digested or applied to the skin." He held up the bowl of mixed ingredients, the result being a semi-pungent poltice with occasional piece of a leaf sticking out of it.

"The sitrus berry is the most effective and stable berry that can heal, And dock is good for open wounds. Petcha berries, like I said before, are nature's antidote. Many trainers use Sitrus and Petcha berries on pokemon, because of the natural effects of the berries. Although they never do use any other plant other than berries." Ab'Soli got up, "That's why I use this poltice so very often. So easy to make, yet so potent."

"If you say so," Ab'Soli commented as he applied the poltice. "There, now within a couple hours it should be okay to support it's own weight. Until then, please stay still so it mends correctly.""

"Although your body may not be allowed to stir, your mind is. There are plenty of games which use the mind. Cho, for example." He set a game board down in front of her, and it appeared to be chess. "Just say what price you want to move, and where to move it. Like so; Pawn three, foward one." Responding to his voice, the third pawn from the left (his right) moved forward one space.
