The owner smiled. "You're free to go get a drink or use the bathroom or get something to eat whenever you need to," he said to Aquit, then went back to Emily. "$16/hour starting is pretty good. Do a good job with the dishes and I might give you a raise within a couple weeks."

"One of our waiters went home sick," an employee told the owner.
