Carmen closed her eyes. She felt alone and hated it. For her whole life she always had somebody with her at all times. The baby kicked, as if to remind her that she was there. Carmen paid no attention, just wanting Ranger to look at her the way he used to.

Back at the ranch, Ranger kept replaying in his mind everything that had tried to force him and Carmen apart. The more he thought about it, the more he thought marrying her may have been a mistake.

Carmen began to cry silently, wanting to be back home.
