The next day, Itsuki walked into school. He was acknowledged by several people as he walked down the hall; obviously the fact he got along with Seyn made him seem less scary, perhaps... normal. He nodded to several people before reaching his locker. He opened it carefully, examining it every inch of the way open.
"What's wrong?" A beautiful girl knocked him from behind. "You're being pretty cautious. Hiding something?"
"Nope. I was just the target of a joke the other day. If I find the one responsible, they're done for."

The girl chuckled, "You're funny." She looked surprised as she realized she hadn't given him her name. "I'm Val."

Itsuki nodded, "So, what class are you in?" He asked.
Val huffed, "You don't recognize me? You sit behind me in Mathmatics. Don't tell me you never even noticed me..." She sighed, twirling her long, golden hair, "That's just like you, Itsuki the Cold." She was joking, obviously, and possibly flirting.

Itsuki nodded, "Yeah, probably." He nodded to Val, "Sorry, but I don't want to be late for the next class."
"Ok, I understand." Val said, smiling happily.

Val seemed to realize they were together at that point, but continued smiling. So he has a girlfriend, that's fine. I just want to get to know him. He seems so interesting...

Val looked at her. "I think we got off on the wrong foot, alright? I'm not trying to steal your boyfriend, he just seems like a cool guy." She sighed, "I actually had been wondering what was under that cold shell of yours."
itsuki looked surprised.
"You're wondering how I knew? Well, for starters, I saw you help a girl in the hall when a bully spilled her books. Someone who's icy to the core wouldn't have done that."

Itsuki finished eating a minute later.
Val looked at him, somewhat sad that Seyn wanted nothing to do with her. Just as much as she had heard about Itsuki being cold, she had heard that Seyn was cheerful, bubbly, and friendly. Guess they were wrong...

"No. I'm an empath, sensitive to people's energies. I can pick up on what people are thinking from their energies," she said. She swirled her hand around, the glass in her water following her motions as it floated up.

Val blinked, surprised. "That's... Different. I know there're a lot of people out there with abilities and powers, but almost everyone in this school are..." She had begun to say 'normal', but instead substituted, "powerless. Not that I'm looking down on you, but why did you come here, when there are other schools with higher percentages of people with abilities like yours?"

Val nodded, "That would make sense. Going here would help you learn life skills, like interacting with people less fortunate." She sighed, "I wonder what it would be like, to have a power of my own..."
Itsuki, feeling like it was now safe to join in, said "You're not the only one. I felt that way too. I was always wishing I had the power to change the things I didn't like..."
Val cut him off, excitedly. "Was? Does that mean you've gained a power too?"
Itsuki glanced over at Seyn, and answered carefully. "In a sense, yes. But I have also found that these are a lot of responsibility." He sighed, "Sometimes I wish I'd never found 'it'. But I always realize I can help people on a much larger scale."
Val's eyes shone with excitement, curiosity, and wonder as he asked, "What's 'it'?"
