Rain splattered down on the thirsty earth, being absorbed almost as every drop fell. Rain had not fallen for a hundred years. Why it chose now to rain was anybody's guess.
Swift pawsteps thudded on the moistened earth as several pairs of eyes locked in the encroaching darkness. Amber, silver, blue and gray were the colors of the eyes. A singular green eye flashed farther in the darkness as a howl shattered the nearly-silent air, lightning crackling overhead as wolves stopped to a hault and faced each other.
