"Wow. It's like a hot spring," he said, taking off his parka. "That's genius thinking."

Ninetails nodded.

"So, do you know where the Glaceon are near here? I've come to study them as you know."

"They're in here."

"Ah. So that's how they keep their Eevee babies warm in this environment. Makes sense that they'd seek help." He noticed a young mother Glaceon nursing her pups. "Aww. So cute. I've never seen a baby pokemon nursing before, let alone this close." He slowly reached out to pet the mother.

The Glaceon lowered her head, her ears flat. "Careful, most of us aren't used to humans."

"Sorry," he said, pulling his hand back. "If I may ask, how many of each are in your litter?" he asked the mother Glaceon.

"Two boys and three girls."

"Just by looking, it seems they're all healthy. Are there any of you who have yet to give birth? I'd love to witness a birth."

"The birthing season is over," Ninetails said simply.

"Ah. I'll have to return next year then." He looked around at all the different pokemon in the cave. "You're almost like a mother to them. There's nowhere else in this barren landscape that they can find warmth."

"There are others like me, but we're few and far between."

"Exactly. Out here, those like you are highly respected and revered. You're the main source of heat. There are those who depend on you, not just for comfortable heat, but for survival. These babies, for instance."

Ninetails nodded. "They'll be able to leave in a month or so when their fur is thicker."

"They'll still have to stay close I'd imagine. It'd be difficult for them to generate enough body heat on their own."

"they wont be able to fully leave the cave until summer comes.

"Summer's probably not much warmer in this place than winter is. In my case, I won't even be able to leave the cave for a few hours. I might not even be able to make it back."

"I see. Still, this is fascinating. There's so many things I can learn just by watching. Like I'll be able to learn how often Eevee pups have to nurse. How long it is before they open their eyes. Speaking of which, how old are they now?"
|
|
|

"Three weeks," the mother said. "They've been able to see for a week now."

"So, their eyes open at two weeks old. Ah, I wish I could have seen it. Still, thank you for the information." He smiled and jotted down the number. "Are you hungry? I've got some special pokemon food I've been working on. It's not quite perfect yet, but I've had a number of satisfied customers."
