For over 100 miles, the rumbling from the volcano could be felt. On the verge of erupting, it threatened to wipe out many nearby homes and habitats. One man stood to face it.

[Have you seen the Blind Bandit? It has one of the funniest scenes when Toph uses her earthbending to pull the Boulder into a split. Hard as I try, I can't imitate his scream from that.]

She used a Wind spell to make a mask that would filter the oxygen out of the air for him. She was clearly fairly unaffected by the gas.

[It really raises the question is Aang the last Avatar? He was killed in the avatar state and brought back with his chakra locked, preventing him from going into the avatar state again. But in the finale, he went into the avatar state, so his chakra was unlocked, but it begs the question of whether or not a new avatar will be born when he dies.]
