Jack shrugged, "Let's take a rain check on that lesson."

She nodded. She was frustrated that he wouldn't listen to her, but she knew that to press could possibly make him disinterested.
A glass on the far end of the bar broke and she got on guard. A girl was glaring at a boy that was holding onto her shoulder. "Kara..." he aid quietly. "No." She shoved his hand off and he grabbed her again, glaring at her. Energy crackled in the air from Kara and Insyo blinked. "Ishen!" She turned to the Helbean and he tossed her his sword and she snatched it out of the air. Kara was beginning to draw a sword that hung on her hip and slashed it quickly at the boy, but Insyo was between them in a second, blade to blade with Kara. "You will calm down," she said calmly. Kara merely growled and toook a step, moving so fast she disappeared. Insyo followed suit. The only indication they were fighting was the occasional clanging of steel that rang through the now-silent night club.
Ishen, the Helbean, turned to the Ciscoes. "Don't interfere with this; let Insyo handle it. She can handle the Darkness Biter very well."

The Ciscoes instead made a dash toward the fight, taking positions around the boy. "I don't know what you said, but you've caused some trouble." Jack told him, as the team evacuated the source of the problem away. "I can't decide whether to let you go, or to cap you right now." He sighed, "We'll sort it out later." He shoved the guy toward a small bench, "For now sit right there and don't move." Chris and Kelly, fully armed, stood guard over him as Jack watched the pair of women fight.

"I'm out of here." The boy disappeared, melting into the shadows, untraceable. Ishen shook his head.

"Kch." Chris said, "He got away. Shoulda shot him first, then asked questions." Jack shook his head, "We couldn't have done that. We don't involve civilians, for one, and especially not while we have her to answer to." Kelly nodded, "Besides, we have ways of finding people who try to run." She was holding a screen, with a flashing dot. Kelly, seeing the possibility he would escape, had hidden a tracker on him. "We'll see who he is and if that girl wants him outta her hair, and deal with him as needed." "Excellent work." Jack said.

After a while, Insyo and Kara became visible, both panting. The energy around Kara had dissappated, leaving her back to normal. "THe Biter is gone now," Insyo said. Kara nodded and Insyo caught her as she passed out.

Jack jogged over. "Well done. Set her over here, and we'll see if we can't revive her." He pointed to the bench where the guy had been sitting before he warped. "I'm not certain, but I think our next job may have found us. We'll know for sure once she's up."

The tracer on the guy disappeared from the screen. "People around this city are not so naive they cannot tell you put a tracer on them," Insyo said. "The discipline of aura reading makes you three open books."

Chris and Kelly shrugged. "We know where he's been. There's likely to be someone there who knows him that we can rough up a little."

She shook her head. "They will rough you up before you rough them up. You are not going to survive long in this city."

Kelly chuckled. "There's more than one way to get information." Chris sighed, "Besides, weren't you going to follow us under orders? Judging from your previous speeches, fighting's not your favorite thing." Jack leaned back, "Besides, we're getting ahead of ourselves. We don't even know if there is a job yet." He watched the mystery woman as she slept, "And we won't know until she wakes up."

Insyo shook her head. "You will get nothing from her. As angry as she is with him, she will not want anyone to harm him. I know Kara well. As with most inhabitants of this city, she is a pacifist. I know that seems to go against what just happened with the fight, but that was not her own choice.
"What you witnessed was called the Darkness Biter. It is an extremely dangerous state that users of Darkness magic enter when they become extremely agitated. Even the most pacifistic of Darkness users can enter it if they become too angry. It is an all-consuming state where one only wishes to kill. It will not stop until one's energy is drained or they can gain control over it. It is usually the former, not the latter. Even Dark Healers can enter the state though they usually have better control than most.
"The Biter also makes the user nearly invincible to all forms of attack. About the only thing that can take on a Biter is another one or a user of Light magic."

Jack leaned back. "If she has no complaint, then there's no reason to bother with that guy."

"We don't find jobs." Jack said, "Jobs find us. It's to be expected when we're the best out there." He wasn't bragging or overemphasizing, but just stating a fact.

A while later, Kara groaned as she woke up. "Are you all right?" Insyo asked. "Sore, but not unusual," she said as she sat up.

Jack looked at her, his eyes shifting to take in every aspect of her appearance. "That guy giving you trouble? If you'd like we can deal with him for you. However, I want to make it clear on two points: First, we require a finding and processing fee. Secondly, after this fees are paid, every aspect of our mission is decided by you, the client. If you tell us to bring him in unharmed, we'll do our best to ensure he remains unharmed." Chris grinned, "We haven't failed a mission in years. Our track record is such that we're feared in every region that isn't a third world country." Kelly added, "Thus are we the demons three."
(Yay! I've been wanting to make that pun for awhile.)

Insyo shook her head. "No," Kara said. "It wasn't anything really major, but he'd just asked so many times I'd finally snapped. He was my boyfriend for about two years and my best friend since we were like two. The boyfriend part of him, I'm done with, but I still want to be his friend. I'd rather die before anything happened to him."

"Seems to me, then, that you would owe an even larger debt to her." Jack pointed at Insyo. "Your statement just then about dying before anything happened to him would be meaningless had she not intervened. How ironic you chose that statement about a guy you yourself almost killed in anger." Kelly nodded, "There's no guarantee he won't get on your nerves again. And if there is nobody to intervene, things'll get messy." Chris sighed, "So, it comes down to you. Control yourself, wind up killing someone you never wanted to, or avoid this guy at all costs."

Kara glared at them and stood up. "You three shut the hell up! You're acting all high and mighty like you know everything about me! But you don't, so stop stick your noses in my business! If you want a job, how about you three get your heads out of your asses and learn a thing or two about respecting others and the culture of this city before you offer your 'services' to people!" She looked at Insyo. "I'll see you tomorrow for our lesson, Sacred Sister?" Insyo glanced at them. "IF they are not in the middle of something. Mother and Master Sandu have asked me to be with them at all times." She looked at the Ciscoes. "If we are not busy tomorrow at noon, I must meet Kara for our weekly lesson that will help her to control the Biter."

"Sounds fine." Jack was obviously uneffected by Kara's rant. He turned to Kara, "It appears I was too quick in judging the situation. From the recent facts, it appears you have already made your choice to control yourself, and I applaud your determination." He sat down, "But there are worse things than listening to a woman yell." His eyes glazed over as he was drawn into his memories. Chris and Kelly moved over nearer Kara, their faces grim. "We've made our share of mistakes. Your situation..." Chris said, trailing off. "It reminds us of a dark time in our past. Our being tough on you was just in the hopes of preventing you from making the same choices as we did." Kelly finished.

"Darkness users aren't idiots," Kara said coolly. "We're taught from a young age to control the Biter. Unfortunately, I didn't have the fortune to be born to parents that understood what Darkness is like. I only started learning two years ago. Luckily, though, I never got angry enough for it to get out of hand. I gotta go. My sis is depending on me." She stood up and walked away, her long blonde hair swishing behind her.

Chris and Kelly looked at each other. "Did she...?" Chris asked. "I think she did!" Kelly replied. "That... That skank!"
(As you may not have noticed, your post implies that the ciscoes are idiots. For example, at the end of my post: "...same choices as we did." And then at the beginning of your post: "Darkness users aren't idiots." It's like she's saying she won't make the same mistakes because she's not an idiot - which infers they are.)

Insyo shook her head. "That did not mean to imply that you are idiots. She was merely saying that Darkness users know what they are doing."

Jack was sitting in his chair, leaned back so only the back pair of legs were on the ground, and his knees were hooked under the table's edge. "You know, I see some great potential in that kid." He said, looking after where Kara had walked away. Were she more careful of her words, she'd make an excellent assassin." He shrugged, "Great charisma, good looks, all the basic requirements are there."

"And she would rather slit her own throat before killing another of her own free will. The people of this city value honor highly. Even the members of Team Phantom do."
