"Get moving!" A large man in armor shoved a little girl. "Leave my sister alone!" a young boy shouted, being restrained by guards. "What do you think you can do, kid? You're a weakling." One of the guards kicked him in the back. "I don't know why our boss wants you, but we're just following orders."

"Is there a problem here?" A woman in knightly armor sitting atop a palomino horse rode up. She had a sword on her hip as well as a bow and arrow quiver slung over her shoulder. The air around her was sharp and palpable. She clearly had many, many years of military training.

"What's it to you?" the guard said. "Our boss told us to bring these kids to him, so we're gonna do just that."

"Capturing children is not ethical," she said, her blue eyes steely hard. The horse snorted and shook her head, glaring at the guard.

Before the guard could even blink, Ana, the horse, had reared up and struck the man top of the head. Nedra had an arrow knocked.

"Fire!" A hail of bullets sprayed at Ana and Nedra

Ana kneeled down and Nedra rolled off her familiar's back, hitting the ground. She knocked several arrows and fired where she sensed the bullets being shot from. She had nearly 5000 years of experience with the bow, so her accuracy was deadly.

One by one the men fell by her arrows.

Nedra continued to fire as Ana kneeled to avoid the bullets.

Soon, all but one of the guards have fallen to her arrows.

Nedra approached the guard, an arrow knocked on her bow. "What is your reason for taking these children?" The arrowhead glinted dangerously in the sunlight. She had it aimed straight at the guard's heart.

"Our boss wouldn't tell us. He just told us to bring in these kids. Heck if I know what for."

"Goodbye." She loosed the arrow straight into the guy's heart unceremoniously. She turned to the kids, slinging her bow back over her shoulder. Ana got up and shook her coat out, snorting indignantly. "Are you two all right?"

"Wh-what do you want with us?" the boy asked, still scared out of his mind.

She smiled kindly. "Do not worry," she said, kneeling down to his level. "I saved you. I will not harm you." Ana whickered softly and Nedra patted her familiar's head.

She nodded and looked at his sister.
[Probably a really stupid question, but are they wearing restraints?]

[Yes]
"They might have been after my sister."

"Why is that?" She took out a dagger and cut the restraints on his wrists.

"A medium of some sort probably. Rare, but not unheard of." She cut the girl's restraints, then put the dagger away. "I am Nedra Tsukino and this is Ana." She stood up straight and patted the horse's neck, then picked the little girl up.
[Assuming she's out cold since she's not said anything]

"Lately she's been saying something about bringing Ho-oh back to life. I don't know what she's talking about. I think she's finally lost it."

"I know little of this world, but I know someone who does. Kiki. She may be able to shed some light upon this situation." "You don't need to worry about going to her." A man with black hair and fiery orange eyes walked over. "At least for the next few minutes. There's still a Ho-oh that's alive and kicking on this world. Then there's one in the Underworld that's a reaper of mortal souls."

"Then what did my sister mean about bringing Ho-oh back to life?"

Kephae snapped and summoned a book and he flipped through it. "There was a Ho-oh killed around four thousand years ago. The only female one in history. Mycila's mother. Killed by a Hachian priest that was put to death shortly after her murder. That can be the only thing she meant." He closed the book and it disappeared in a flash of blackflame. He narrowed his unsettling fiery eyes. "Who are you and your sister, anyway, kid?"

"I meant names!" Kephae snapped. "Kephae!" A white Ninetales with eyes darker than night appeared. "Leave them alone! They've done nothing wrong." "So you think. And why the hell are you always in my hair, Nebike?!" Kephae snapped. "You know Master doesn't trust you alone." Nebike narrowed her eyes coldly at Kephae. "You may be the best tracker of us, but your temper is the worst." She turned to the boy again, her demeanor far gentler. "Tell me, son, what's your name?" Her voice was gentle and sweet, the complete opposite of what it had been just seconds before.

"I'm Gitchan. And my sister is Luna. She said she once rode on a Ho-oh's back, far above the sky, but neither of us have ever seen one."

Kephae summoned a book that had arcane symbols on the front and a skull prominently in the middle. "Kephae...!" Nebike said. "Why must you summon that thing ever moment?!" "Yep. Just as I thought. If missy here-" Kephae jabbed his thumb at Nedra. "-hadn't intervened, you two would've died this day." He made the book disappear. "Ignore him," Nebike said. "Kephae, Master is requesting you anyway. Now shoo!" "Yes, master," he said acidly, disappearing. Nebike spat an Ember at where he had been standing, turning the sand to glass. "I will never understand him!"
