And they can't be open books. Granted, almost everybody near me is an open book because of my powers, but there are some that are tougher to read."

Barthello used rocks to knock everyone out, being careful not to hurt the innocent badly, then got himself and Adina out of there, covering them with a veil of earth when they were far enough away. "What was with the hiss back there?" he asked. "Bare in mind, I didn't want to knock everyone in there out, but I didn't want to let your secret out, either."
