A few years passed and during the whole time, Elpe seemed to constantly slow down. Within the first year, she was completely bed-ridden and unable to turn back to her human state, but all tests showed she was healthy. She kept Xach close, needing her mate's support

She closed her eyes to go to sleep. A few minutes later, her body worked on its own and slid out a baby girl. She awoke, feeling profound relief. "This explains it. This is why I've felt so tired the past few years." She kissed the baby girl. "She's a rare one. Our DNA combined in a way that what you see now, her small body, is her full dragon form. She's able to stand on her back legs easily. Most babies like this don't survive. Usually, there's more than one and if we'd had another, she'd have been born way before her body was stable." Elpe looked at the little girl. "The happy part is she's survived. The sad part is we won't get to raise her."
