Kermu turned away, certain he had just completely ruined it by jumping the gun. It's all my fault. I lost control and made a move too soon. Now, she'll never love me, her last chance will be worthless, her spirit will be broken and it'll be all my fault. Tears began rolling down his face, but he stayed silent.

After a while, Aiko spoke slowly. "I just don't really know how to handle relationships anymore. When somebody nuzzles me or anything, a mixture of grief and happiness whells up. It's just my first instinct to pull away."

Kermu didn't respond. The fur on his face was wet from his tears and he still didn't face her. He wasn't sure anymore if he wanted to try this relationship. One slip up could break her spirit. But if he left her now, her spirit would be broken anyway. He couldn't win.

Aiko hesitantly nuzzled him. It was a friendly gesture to try to make him feel better. She hated seeing others hurt like that and knowing she was behind it.
