Chapter 1:
The Journey Begins
My alarm began buzzing off. I rolled over & groaned, slamming my hand on the snooze button. It was 8:00 in the morning, & I still didn't want to wake up from my great dream. It was about Pokemon, & I was the greatest trainer ever. But there's just one malfunction to that dream: I am afraid of any & ALL Pokemon that I've never met.
"Max, time to get up, son!" my dad yelled from down stairs."Come on, I promised to take to the Gym today!"
"Gym?" My eyes immediately snapped open from their closed position. "Coming!" I shouted, & impudently flung out of my bed, almost tripping on the confuter that was still clutching to my feet.
I quickly went to mt closet, getting out my usual blue jeans on. I heard thumping on the stairs & looked over. Pixie, the female Ninetails, even though she thinks she's mine, peaked her had in the doorway. I couldn't help but smile.
"Just a minute, Pixie!" I said, slipping on my black shirt. "I'm almost ready! Just give me a minute!" The Ninetails growled, retracting her head into the room that lyes out-side my room.
I found Pixie when I was just four years old, while I was out playing out in the woods with my father's Mightyena. She was a Vulpix then, & she had a wounded foot, & was also contracted with a virus. Since my parent's wouldn't let me take a wild Pokemon into their house, Might & I took her to Elm's in the neighboring town. He said that she might have been abandoned by her mother because she was lame, & didn't seem to be able to make it. After the call home, my parents both agreed that I could bring her home after Elm had checked her throughly. Although, he said that if I took her home, she couldn't be released into the wild, but if she were to stay at Elm's, he could easily return her to the wild after a while.
I choose the first choice of course. But a while after that, at the age of five, a tragic thing happened: I got caught in Torus stampede. I didn't terribly hurt or anything, but after that, I did have a fear of Pokemon I didn't know. But, I did find one cool thing on that day after the stampede: a Fire Stone. And with Pixie's permission, I evolved her.
My father then began training her, just in case I changed my mind about Pokemon. But of course, I didn't.
"You almost ready, son?" my dad yelled up at me."We haven't got all day!I've got trainers to battle!"
Yeah dad, I'ma coming'!" I shouted back, quickly knotting my shoe-laces. I quickly jogged to the stairs because Pixie had already disappeared. My feet pounded the stair well, & I took a leap from the last step to the ground floor, smack dab in the kitchen.
"Well if it isn't the birthday boy!" my mom's voice came from the stove. The smell of a baking cake filled the room, which made me pause for a moment.
"Mom!" I finally went, stretching my arms before dropping them again. But my mom just laughed at me, as usual.
"What?" she asked, flipping another pancake on the stove. "I can't celebrate my son's tenth birthday?"
"Depends on how you celebrate it," my dad laughed, actually coming for air from his plate. And frankly, they didn't notice me inching to wards the door. Mightyena & Star, my mother's Persian old show companion, watched me wearily. And of course, Pixie stood at the door, muzzled faced up wards. And I was just about to put my hand on the door...
"And where do you think your going?" my mom asked, not even looking away from the stove. I flinched back, chuckling. I swear, she has eyes in the back of her head...
"Honey, stop scaring the boy," my dad said, leaning back in his chair. "He was only going out to play, now weren't you, son?" His gaze was now on me, & I gulped & nodded.
"Well, okay, I guess," mom said, giving a sigh as she flipped a pancake. "Boys will be boys."
"Yes!" I said, swinging the door open. "Thanks, mom! Thanks dad!" But by then I was already speeding down the path toward the woods, Pixie close behind.
Leaves went crunching under my feet as I ran through the forest, Pixie & Might close behind. Frankly, my dad sent him to help watch me, which sometime I don't mind. But I just wish that they wouldn't treat me like a kid all of the time.
I gave a grunt as I took a leap over the brook, from one giant rock to another. Mightyena & Pixie easily jumped over, being used to these conditions. Star, on the other hand, loved being an inside Pokemon. I stopped & squatted, panting a bit from all of the running I had just done. Might turned around & jogged a few yards back to the stream, dipping his head to drink. Pixie, on the other hand, came next to me, lying down to pant the running off.
Hey, girl I said to her, patting her head. A sudden growl made me whip around. Might had his ears back, growling at the path, back at St. Lawrence. What is it boy? I asked, standing fully & turning toward him. What's wro- a big bang! cut off my sentence, along with explosions, screams, & smoke burst in the air.
Might gave a loud howl & leaped straight from his spot, over the broke & back toward the town. I took off running after him, calling him back. What was going on? Pixie ran beside me, & I could tell by a sudden glance that she was tense.
Might! I hollered again, my face red & my supply weaking with every step I took. But it was too late. Might had already scattered out of the woods & toward home. I scattered out behind Pixie, but what I saw made me want to run back to the woods, to safety.
Pokemon were being captured. People were being taken away. Men wearing black with red Rs on them were all doing this, being cruel.
Mom! Dad! I scattered forward, toward home. Pixie growled & ran after me, but my focus was on getting home.
I swear I ran forever until I got to the house, but by then, my eyes were flooding with tears. They were dragging my mom out, & Star was trying to save her, but only got beat back every time by a Houndoom. My dad had Mightyena & was battling a Nidoking, but Might was getting beat badly.
Mom! Dad! My voice came hoarsely. My dad spun around, his face in shock.
Max! he hollered. Get back! Run! Now! I stopped immediately, but was too late to run. A Houndoom came behind me, & another in front.
I began to panic a bit. As I said before, I was utterly afraid of any & ALL Pokemon I didn't know. Pixie! I hollered to the Pokemon, where ever she was. Help me! A blurb to gold flashed behind me, & when I whipped around, Pixie had tackled one of the Houndoom, & was in a took & fang fight with it. My head turned to the other Houndoom, who was inching toward me.
Get the boy! someone hollered. A couple of men lurched forward, which made me turn high tail & flee.
Pixie! I hollered for the Pokemon to follow me this time, but as I looked back, I could she that she was in a plummet. No! I stopped & turned, but only to turned & run again from two other men.
I ran blindly into the woods, over the brook, & wouldn't stop. My legs seemed to lead to out of harm, but what about my family? What about Pixie, Mightyena, & Star? My life was over as I knew it, running until I blacked out, not remembering if I heard foot-steps behind me or not.
